STPM Biology Structure of Cell and Organelle (Part 9)

Peroxisomes

Peroxisomes are organelles containing catalase enzymes. These organelles are dispersed in the cytoplasm of almost all the eukaryotic cells.

This organelle is responsible for secreting catalase enzymes to break down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.

Hydrogen peroxide is a dangerous by-product if a number of cell undergoes metabolism.
