STPM Biology Structure of Cell and Organelle (Part 11)

Plastid

Plastids are plant organelles storing food or pigments and are bounded by a double membrane.

Plastids storing chlorophylls are called chloroplasts.
Plastids storing proteins are called aleuroplasts.
Amyloplasts are plastids containing starch.

Chloroplasts are plastids that contain carotenoid pigments which are red, orange or yellow in colour. This organelle gives colour to flowers, fruits and leaves.
